OK, so smoking wasn’t this robot butler’s main pastime but it’s clearly one that he was happy to do on command along with a host of other activities which would make him fit right into the house of tomorrow pre-war style. Definitely a more sophisticated companion than Alpha, he was created by the now defunct Westinghouse Electric corporation as an exhibit for the 1939 New York World’s Fair ‘World of Tomorrow’.

The same expo featured the famous Futurama ride by designer Norman Bel Geddes, sponsored by General Motors, which predicted how transportation would look 20 years from then.
